Pet Adoption
We have many wonderful dogs and cats available for adoption at Friends of Homeless Animals, a no-kill shelter in Northern Virginia. Several of our adoptable pets will attend this year's Barktoberfest.
To see who is currently available for adoption, check out FOHA's website at www.foha.org.
If you are not in a position to adopt a furry companion, there are other ways of helping homeless pets.
Volunteer - Walk dogs, play with cats, and help at adoption events!
Donate - Money, blankets, towels, toys, treats... every little bit helps.
Foster - Providing a temporary home for a dog or cat truly makes a difference!
Sponsor - Sponsor a homeless pet for as little as $10 per month.

English Setter Mix (Female/Young/36 lbs.)
Good with dogs: Yes
Good with cats: ?
Good with kids: Older
Housebroken: Yes
Special needs: None
Bali
was brought to a county shelter as a stray. She is housebroken, likes
to lay in your lap, walks very nice on the leash, loves to retrieve
stuffed animals (we're working on returning them), and rides very well
in the car. She is still a little mouthy when she gets excited and
because of that we recommend no young children at this time. She
doesn't mind you playing with her food at all when she's eating. Bali
would probably do great in a training class and enjoy the socialization.

I’m
a handsome Hound named Billy Boy. I have the most beautiful brown
eyes, and it even looks like I’m wearing eyeliner. I’m a little shy at
first, and skittish in new situations. I just need your help building
my confidence back up. I’m great with other dogs, and I walk very
nicely on the leash. I love to be petted, and I’m a little ticklish on
my back. When you scratch me there, I’ll shake a leg. I was found as
a stray, but I must have had a home at some time, because I had already
been neutered. I’m ready to enjoy the comforts of home and the joy of
having a family of my own.

Animal
Control was contacted about a back yard full of dogs and unhealthy
living conditions. When they got there, they found a yard with about 10
dogs, no food, dirty water, and improper shelter. After Bizzy was
rescued, FOHA offered take her in. Bizzy was terrified at the other
shelter, but as soon as the FOHA volunteer took her out of her run, she
followed the volunteer everywhere, and was great at the vet. Bizzy is
an adorable little dog who still has lots to learn. Whomever has the
patience will surely be rewarded by this amazing little girl.

Bobby
Dubloon was brought to a county shelter as a stray, and FOHA rescued
him. He stayed in a foster home for 10 days before coming out to our
shelter, and did really well with the two boys (2 and 4 years old) in
addition to the two young dogs that lived there. Bobby is also
housebroken! He is looking for a new place to call home.

Shepherd/Boxer Mix (Female/Young/45 lbs.)
Good with dogs: Yes
Good with cats: No
Good with kids: Seems to be
Housebroken: ?
Special needs: None
Now
that I’ve won the hearts of the volunteers, it’s time for me to win
your heart. I’m a fun-loving playful girl who is great with other
dogs. I have an overzealous curiosity for cats, so I’d steer clear of
them. I’m very loving and adore attention, but I’m not one to be in
your face for attention. I prefer a more calm, cool and collected
approach. And hey, it obviously works, because everyone likes me!
What can I say, when you got it, you got it! I love going for walks
and would enjoy all kinds of activities with you. I’m just brisling
with excitement to find my new family.

Good with dogs: Yes
Good with cats: Yes
Good with kids: Yes
Housebroken: Yes

Hello,
everyone. My name is Brodie. I was brought to FOHA by my family, whom
I had loved for five years. I had chewed a towel and swallowed a bit
of it, and my family could not afford the surgery I needed to remove
it. I guess my family’s idea of loving me was to feed me a lot,
because the vet said I was overweight. FOHA paid for my surgery, and
now I’m on the road to recovery and weight loss. Nah! I’m great with
children, great with other dogs and cats, and already housetrained. On
top of that, I have a calm, gentle and friendly personality. What more
could you ask for? I'm in foster care, so please ask to meet me.

Charley’s
my name, having fun is my game! I love people and my whole body just
trembles with excitement waiting for you to come and pet me! I love
attention and I love to feel your touch. I’m a lean, but not mean,
playing machine! I’m very good when walking on the leash and I love
riding in the car. I like to stretch my long legs running and playing,
in a safe, fenced in area of course. I’m good with other dogs, and
friendly to all. I’m kind of a clown, but not the scary kind. I’m all
fun!

Petit Bleu de Gascogne (Female/Young/47 lbs.)
Good with dogs: Yes
Good with cats: No
Good with kids: Yes
Housebroken: Yes
Special needs: None
My
name is Jessamine, and I am a beautiful girl with one blue eye and one
brown eye, and big floppy ears. I am thought to be a Petit Bleu de
Gascogne, which is a breed that is more common in France than in the
U.S., but that just makes me extra special! I am a wonderfully sweet
dog who has been loving life in my foster home! I love being around
people of all ages, especially children. I
enjoy playing on my own with my toys, as well as going on friendly
romps with the two other dogs that live in my foster home. I have very
good house manners, and though I still have not perfected my
housetraining, I'm well on my ways! After so long in the shelter, who
can blame me? I'm working on basic commands, and am very eager to
please. I walk very nicely on a leash, but am just as content to curl
up and take long naps. Either the couch or my crate will do just fine
for me! My foster mom says that I am
the perfect dog for any family that’s looking for a well-behaved,
easy-going, playful couch potato. For a hound, I bark very rarely too!
If you are looking for a wonderful addition to your family, please
consider me. I deserve a loving permanent family to call my own. I’ll
pay you back with a lifetime of loyalty and love! I'm in foster care, so please ask to meet me!

Harrier (Female/Young/33 lbs.)
Good with dogs: Yes
Good with cats: ?
Good with kids: Seems to be
Housebroken: ?
Special needs: None
My
sister May and I came in to FOHA together. .. May and June, get it?
Like two peas in a pod! Of course, I’m June, which I think is the
better of the two, but don’t tell my sister I said that, okay? Think
warm and sunny. That’s pretty much my personality. I love being
around people and spreading my warmth. I enjoy going for walks,
playing with other dogs, and taking naps. Our owners said we were
dumped on them, and then they turned around and dumped us again. Funny
how that works, it’s no fun being dumped. I’m the more outgoing of the
two of us, and I’d love to show you my silly ways. I love to cuddle
and goof around and I’d love to be yours every month of the year.

Australian Cattle Dog Mix (Male/Young/39 lbs.)
Good with dogs: Yes
Good with cats: Yes
Good with kids: ?
Housebroken: ?
Special needs: None
Hi,
my name is Lamar. I’m an adorably sweet little guy with a great
personality. I’m terrific with other dogs (although I can play a bit
rough) and get along with everyone I meet. I’m great with kids and
they just love my cute red freckles and my soft coat. I’m always happy
with my tail wagging and I have such a wonderful spirit you can’t not
have a good time around me. I just make life more fun, and isn’t that
what it’s all about? I love riding in the car and going for walks.
Although I was a little nervous when I first go here, I’m not really
shy at all now. I’m always smiling and always happy and always wagging
my tail. There’s a sparkle in my eye and a spring in my step and I’m
very eager to listen and learn. I’m just so fully of love and fun and
I can’t wait to share it with my new family.

I can personally attest to the fact that blondes have more fun! I’m a bouncy, playful, fun-loving girl named Lexa. I’ve got a happy disposition, I love being around people and I’m great with other dogs! I’ll flop right on my back for some belly rubs, because ooh, they feel soo good! I love to play and go for walks. I
already know how to sit, but sometimes I’m thinking about something
else, so you have to show me what you mean when you say it. I’m a really good listener and I’m eager to please! I know we’ll be great together!

Special needs: Undergoing heartworm treatment, so I can't go to an active home with kids or other dogs until my treatment is complete
I’m
a gentle, easy-going girl named Nailey. I was found hanging out in a
neighborhood, going from house to house. Everyone loved me and they
would all take turns caring for me, but with my puppies on the way, no
one wanted to take me full time. I was taken to the pound, and once my
puppies found homes, I was left all alone. That’s when FOHA stepped
in, and now I have a chance to find a home for myself. I’m great with
other dogs, and very calm and gentle. I walk so nicely on the leash
you might even forget I’m on the other end. I’m tired of being passed
around and I’m ready to belong to my very own family.

If
you are looking for a loveable, cuddly, playful puppy to add to your
family, I'm your boy! My name is Strider, and I have quite a story to
tell. A family brought me home when I was 8 weeks old, but
apparently, they didn't realize that puppies don't arrive perfectly
trained, so they left me at a county shelter after I chewed on a shoe.
I ran out of time at the county shelter, but fortunately FOHA came to
my rescue and found me a loving foster home so I could get some
one-on-one training and TLC. It's hard to believe that I've been
through so much in my life, and I'm not even a year old! I am
extremely smart and eager to please, I love other dogs, I get along
okay with cats, and I'd be great with older kids. In addition, I ride
well in the car, and enjoy going for walks. I am simply adorable, but
if you want to adopt me, please remember that puppies require extra
time and effort, and we sometimes get into mischief. I'm well worth
the extra work, and I promise to be a loyal friend and companion for a
family that will love and care for me for my entire life.

I’m

taken to the county pound, and then rescued by FOHA.! LUCKY ME!!! I’m
great with other dogs and have an infectious zest for life! I love to
run and play and scamper about, and it’s way more fun when you join
in! I’m an ideal dog for an active family, because I’m no couch
potato, although I do love to cuddle and snuggle. Just not on the
couch though! And, I have a wonderfully soft coat, just perfect for

I’m a happy, fun-loving guy with a wonderful personality. My family had a baby and couldn’t take care of a dog too, so here I am. I’m a good looking guy who gives great kisses. I love to be brushed and will sit patiently while you do so. I’m great with other dogs and very easy to walk. I love being around people, but I don’t really know how to play with them yet. I don’t know how to play with toys yet either, but I’m well on my way to learning how to do both. My name is Treat, so of course I like treats. But really I think Treat means is that you will be very lucky if you choose me as your best buddy.
